Man accused of assault

Woman claims he attacked her

HARMONY — A borough man was arrested for felony assault after he allegedly attacked his roommate Saturday evening after she claimed she refused to have sex with him, authorities said.

Brian S. Gahagen, 31, was placed in the Butler County Prison on $10,000 bail following his arraignment on charges of aggravated assault and harassment.

Zelienople police said the alleged victim reported the incident Sunday. She told police that she didn’t immediately tell authorities because Gahagen had broken her cell phone during the suspected assault at their Main Street home in Harmony, according to court documents.

The investigating officer noted in his affidavit that the woman had a “large bump” above her left eye and a “small cut” on the edge of her nose.

“(She) appeared to be very distraught and in a lot of pain,” the affidavit said.

The Butler Eagle is not identifying the woman due to the nature of her allegations.

The two previously had been a couple but had since ended their relationship and were living as roommates, she told investigators.

However, on Saturday Gahagen allegedly made sexual advances toward the woman while she was in bed, documents said.

She recounted that she fended him off and he eventually left her alone.

But later, documents said, he returned to her bedroom and “punched her in the head, back and chest multiple times.” The woman said he also kicked her.

The alleged victim went to work the next day. She was told to return home after she told her supervisor about the purported assault.

While being interviewed by police at her home, the woman asked for medical treatment. A Harmony EMS crew subsequently took her to UPMC Passavant in Cranberry Township.

Police later interviewed Gahagen at the station. He said he did not know how the woman got her injuries.

He admitted the two drank wine together Saturday evening, police said, before they retired to separate bedrooms.

Gahagen claimed that he “felt like he was drugged,” even though he only had three glasses of wine, documents said, “and didn’t remember any physical contact with (the victim).”
