Restaurant owner seeks state Senate seat
INDIANA, Pa. — An Indiana County restaurant owner is seeking the Democratic nomination to represent the 41st District in the state Senate.
Tony DeLoreto of White Township on Friday announced that he would be seeking his party’s nomination for the seat in the April 26 primary.
The seat currently is held by Republican Sen. Don White of Indiana. White first was elected in 2000 and is running for reelection.
Education, jobs, term limits and campaign reform are four issues DeLoreto deeply cares about, according to a news release. The release said he does not want to be a career politician, but instead to be a public servant that will make his wife and daughter proud.
He said he believes we need to wisely invest in education to promote our district’s strong and eager workforce. As an Indiana (Pa.) University alumnus who chose to stay in the area, DeLoreto is determined to keep hometown graduates and attract others with local jobs and a strong economy. The solution, he said, is to upgrade infrastructure, support and promote current local businesses, and create and recruit new industries to the district that are prosperous, safe and state of the art.
After serving in the U.S. Navy, DeLoreto graduated from college with a degree in journalism in 1998.
In 1991, he opened the Spaghetti Benders restaurant in downtown Indiana. DeLoreto and his business partner built their restaurant from the ground up.
He and his wife, Cherry, now own the restaurant together and will celebrate its 25th anniversary this October.
He and his wife have raised four children. He also currently serves on the board of directors of Downtown Indiana.
The 41st District covers all of Indiana and Armstrong counties, along with parts of Butler and Westmoreland counties.
DeLoreto and White would face each other in the Nov. 8 general election.
