School district seeking input

Surveys cover education, taxes

BUTLER TWP — The Butler School District has released a survey for residents to comment about the effects of the district’s consolidation.

Both the community and parent surveys ask about the quality of education in the district, the safety of the district and taxes.

The community survey asks individuals to rate how effective safety precautions are in the district and what type of tax increases would be preferable: smaller annually increases or larger increases every few years.

The parent survey looks at principal and staff support at the schools as well as safety, transportation, technology and discipline issues.

The surveys are confidential and will remain open until March 28.

The surveys are available to parents and community members on the district’s website: http://www.basdk12.org.

Individuals who need a paper copy of the survey should contact Darlene Roy at 724-214-3107.

The survey came out of the After-Action Review Committee, which was created by the school board in December to analyze the impact of the district consolidation approved in May 2015.

The district closed a number of elementary schools and realigned grades at the middle, intermediate and high school levels.

Jennifer Cummings, school board vice president, also hopes to use the survey as a baseline to measure planning.

“Gaining periodic feedback through the use of the survey will allow input from all of the stakeholders in the district in order to identify areas of strength and to make adjustments in areas of need,” she said.

The survey was designed by Campos, a Pittsburgh-based market research company.
