2nd bald eagle egg hatches in Hays nest

PITTSBURGH — Eaglet number two has emerged in Pittsburgh.

The Audubon Society of Western Pennsylvania says the second eaglet of the season from three eggs laid last month hatched at about 9:40 p.m. Tuesday. The bald eagles nesting in the city’s Hays neighborhood are expected to welcome a third eaglet later this week.

The first eaglet hatched early Monday.

Thousands of people have been watching the eagles and their babies via a live video livestream run by PixController.

That video can be seen via the Butler Eagle website at www.butlereagle.com.

This is the fourth year in the city for the bald eagles nesting on a bluff above the Monongahela River. Ornithologists say they’re the first eagle pair to nest in the city in at least 150 years.
