CRANBERRY TWP — An event will raise money for Girl Rising, which helps girls around the world receive an education.

Attendees will make a painting and raise money for the charity at noon April 30 at the Paint Monkey, 1301 Freedom Road.

Girl Rising also is launching an effort in partnership with the U.S. Agency for International Development to get more girls to attend school in India, the Democratic Republic of Congo and West Africa.

The fundraiser is organized by Kuljit Kaur, a 2008 Seneca Valley High School graduate who is a student at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Erie.

Women do not have opportunities to earn an education in India, where her family is from, Kaur said.

“When I read stories about women abroad, some are married off at the age of 13 without any education or without any skills,” she said.
