Rochester man in jail over stolen jewelry
CRANBERRY TWP — A Beaver County man with a history of stealing is in trouble with the law again.
Chad A. Vaughan, 29, of Rochester is accused of stealing $4,600 worth of jewelry in October 2015 from a house on Robinhood Drive, where he was working as a contractor.
On Friday, Vaughan waived to court felony conspiracy, felony theft by unlawful taking and felony receiving stolen property charges.
He was arrested April 15 by township police and is in Butler County Prison on $20,000 bail.
The residents of the house on Oct. 17 reported a gold pendant and two rings missing from the bathroom, according to court records.
Vaughan’s employer, Christopher Hoffman, told police he saw Vaughan going into the bathroom on several occasions between Oct. 12 and 15 and spending an unusual amount of time there.
Police allege that Vaughn’s girlfriend on Oct. 12 and 15 sold some of the stolen items to a pawn store in Beaver Falls.
Charges were filed in October against the girlfriend for her alleged involvement, but the charges were withdrawn when she had a preliminary hearing in district court Jan. 29.
When charges were filed, police also were looking into the couple allegedly pawning other stolen items.
In 2007, Vaughan was sentenced to time in prison for a series of robberies of gas stations and stores in Beaver, Lawrence and Butler counties, including the Buy-N-Fly in Jackson Township.
He also was convicted in 2011 of fleeing or attempting to elude an officer in Adams Township. He is on probation in Beaver County with his most recent conviction in 2014 for providing false identification to a police officer.
