Harold L. 'Peanuts' McCandless
Harold L. "Peanuts" McCandless, 84, of Mars died Thursday afternoon at LAS St. John Specialty Care Center in Mars.
Born in Mars on Jan. 27, 1923, he was the son of Jessie and Birdie Davison McCandless.
He retired after 33 years as a postal clerk at Mars Post Office. During World War II, he served in the Navy Seabees.
Mr. McCandless was a member and former elder and deacon of Mars United Presbyterian Church. He was a life and charter member of Mars American Legion Post 787, a charter member of Mars V.F.W. Post 7505 and a life member of Mars Volunteer Fire Department and the Mars and the national AARP chapters.
He was a former Cub Scout master and Mars Little League coach.
Surviving are his wife, Doris Forsythe McCandless, whom he married April 16, 1948; three sons, Dennis H. McCandless of Gibsonia, Guy L. (Teri) McCandless of West Chester and Alan R. McCandless of Madison, Ala.; a daughter, Mrs. Larry (Amy) Werner of Mars; and grandchildren Katie and Grant Werner of Mars, Edward McCandless of St. Louis, Mo., and Kristy McCandless of Madison. Nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by four sisters, Eleanor Wise, Elva Cashdollar, Doris Banyay and Dorothy McCandless; and three brothers, Merle, Clair "Mutt" and C. Dale McCandless; and a grandson, Charles Grant Werner.

"Peanuts" McCandless, who died Thursday, Feb. 22, 2007, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at <B>McDonald-Aeberli Funeral Home</B>, 238 Crowe Ave. Mars.Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Mars United Presbyterian Church, 232 Crowe Ave., Mars, with the Rev.
