Robbery suspect

SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mercer County — State police are looking for help from the public to identify suspects of an armed robbery early Tuesday morning at the Marathon Service Station at 1844 S. Center St. Extension.

At 12:57 a.m., a vehicle pulled into a gravel lot just east of the station on Route 208.

A white man from that vehicle walked into the store at 1:01 a.m. and showed his handgun to the clerk. He stole cash and a carton of cigarettes. The clerk was the only other person in the store at the time of the robbery, police said.

The gun-wielding man fled to the vehicle, which picked him up at the parking lot. The vehicle then fled west on Route 28 and south on Interstate 79.

Investigators are seeking help from the public to identify the man, who was not wearing a mask during the robbery.

He is described as about 5 feet, 5 inches tall, heavy set, about 230-250 pounds, and in his late 20s to early 30s, with a short buzz cut and blonde or light brown hair.

Police say there are at least two suspects in the robbery, and there could be more. The kind of gun, type of vehicle, and amount of money stolen were not released by police.
