SLIPPERY ROCK — A 28-year-old man was arrested early Tuesday morning on a bench warrant following a traffic stop in the borough. The arrest also led to additional drug charges being filed.

State police said Michael J. Scott, 28, of Slippery Rock Township was in illegal possession of dozens of pills of Klonopin, prescription medication commonly used to treat anxiety disorders.

A call for a suspicious pickup truck on Route 173 south of Slippery Rock led to the traffic stop about 1 a.m. on Main Street, according to court documents.

Police said the defendant, a front-seat passenger, gave a bogus name. Troopers later determined his true identity, and learned there was a warrant for his arrest.

Scott was arrested and searched. He was found with 50 Klonopin pills, police said, as well as an electric scale, a spoon, syringe and other suspected drug contraband.

District Judge Sue Haggerty arraigned Scott on charges of possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia, and making a false statement to police, all misdemeanors.

He was placed in the Butler County Prison on $10,000 bail following arraignment. His preliminary hearing is set for next Wednesday at the office of District Judge William O’Donnell in Slippery Rock.
