Cranberry man charged in sexual abuse of girl, 14
A Cranberry Township man was charged Tuesday with the sexual abuse of a 14-year-old girl.
Andrew R. Duty, 51, was charged by Cranberry Township Police with four felonies and one misdemeanor related to the alleged sexual abuse of a minor.
The primary charge is aggravated indecent assault, which is applicable only in instances in which the victim has been penetrated.
Duty also has been charged with felony counts of sexual abuse of a child, corruption of a minor and sexual extortion. He also was charged with a misdemeanor count of indecent assault.
Duty was arraigned Tuesday morning on the charges by District Judge David Kovach and released on a $50,000 conditional, unsecured bond.
The conditions include prohibiting Duty from contacting the victim in any way.
According to charging documents, a ChildLine report drew police attention to the case. ChildLine is a child abuse hotline used in Pennsylvania.
Police said they talked with the accuser in February, and the child told them about a number of instances between April and November 2020 in which Duty sexually abused or coerced her to into lewd acts.
“Duty often made comments to (her) that she would owe to him sexual favors if he did things,” said the investigating officer in the affidavit. “(She) stated she obeyed Duty because of the potential blackmail and fear of Duty.”
Police said they interviewed Duty on March 24 about the allegations, and Duty admitted to police that he did what he was accused of.
The documents state police also collected additional evidence, including digital images from Duty's cellphone that aligned with the narrative of some of the alleged abuse.
A preliminary hearing for the case has been scheduled April 16.
