Check and re-check your dr. bills & statements. I just found out that after over 11 years a local dr. office made a mistake and billed me for over $1400.00 worth of services. The irony was that it was a service that was covered under my insurance at the time. The person who was responsible for billing either forgot to submit the claim or just didn't do so. I called the dr. office to make an appointment because I'm moving back into the area and only found out upon calling them to schedule care. I was told that I had a collection account that had to be resolved before they would see me. After talking to an office representitive she caught the mistake and called to apologize then scheduled me for the appointment. I have learned a great lesson from this. 2 days ago I received another bill from a Lab that wanted payment for 2 visits because of a data entry mistake. Someone put my husbands social security number in the system wrong and the insurance wouldn't cover it because they said we didn't exist. This is funny considering my husband is in the military. Nothing is full proof. Protect yourself and make sure these companies are accurately reporting claims, otherwise the money might come from your pockets instead of your benefits.
