INDIANA — A race car driver angry over being bumped by another racer has been charged with driving in the wrong direction and intentionally hitting the other car which, in turn, struck a track official.

State police say 27-year-old Samuel McAdams, of Black Lick, is charged with aggravated assault and other counts in the Oct. 10 incident at Challenger Speedway in Indiana County. McAdams has pleaded not guilty and is free on bond until his preliminary hearing Oct. 28. Police say he is cooperating with investigators.

The track official, 42-year-old Michael Polena, of Sarver, is recovering from torn ligaments, a dislocated left knee, a bruised lung and other injuries.

PITTSBURGH (AP) — A second alleged accomplice of a suburban Pittsburgh teenager accused of trying to kill family members with homemade chemical bottle bombs has surrendered to police.Fifteen-year-old Eric Evans, of Upper St. Clair, is charged with criminal conspiracy and attempted homicide. He surrendered Tuesday after being released from a psychiatric hospital where he'd been staying since the alleged Oct. 4 plot.
