Butler County Prison inmate attempted to hang himself
A Butler County Prison inmate attempted to hang himself in his cell Thursday night.
Warden Joe DeMore said this morning the inmate is back after being treated at Butler Memorial Hospital.
“He’s back at the prison,” DeMore said. “He’s fine.”
The 23-year-old prisoner’s cellmate alerted the prison staff.
He said the inmate, whose name was not released, used a braided bed sheet.
“There was a noose involved,” DeMore said.
He could not confirm how far along the inmate was in his suicide attempt.
The cell is in the jail’s Restrictive Housing Unit.
DeMore credited the cellmate’s intervention and the correction officers’ response to the situation.
“Our guys do a great job,” he said. “They do above and beyond.”
The suicide attempt was reported to county 911 at 10:36 p.m. The inmate was taken by Butler Ambulance to the hospital.
