Re: #!!##??!!
The use of heroin and crack in Butler does not seem to be deterred at all by the fact that drugs are illegal. And this is why: 1. It's everywhere. 2. All it takes to be willing to try it is not really caring about anything or being easily influenced by peer pressure, etc. 3. Once a person is addicted, nothing matters except getting the next fix, so laws don't work as deterrents. When an addict goes to jail, all they're thinking about is getting out so they can get high again. A lot of tax money is wasted in the "war against drugs," and it doesn't really accomplish anything except temporarily keeping someone from getting high. So I agree with Dr. Adalja completely (yikes!) that all drugs should be legalized with the restriction on using them while driving, providing to minors, etc. If someone's going to become a burnout, they're going to do it whatever the law says. I have met many such people in Butler and yuck! The best thing we can do to prevent more people from becoming addicts is to show them the pictures and tell them the stories at a young age and ask them if they really want to become one of these people.
