2 charged with stealing SUV, fleeing from cops
Two men were charged Tuesday with fleeing from police and stealing a 21-year-old SUV that they crashed Monday.
Daivon D. Skinner, 24, of Aliquippa, and Raymond L. Parks, 32, of Pittsburgh, were each charged by state police with four felony counts, including theft, receiving stolen property, unauthorized use of a vehicle and fleeing.
Skinner has two additional charges, one misdemeanor count of false identification and a summary traffic offense.
Both men were arraigned Tuesday.
As of Wednesday, Skinner was still in Butler County Prison in lieu of $15,000 bail, but Parks was released on his own recognizance.
According to charging documents, police were dispatched to the scene of a one-vehicle crash at mile marker 97 of I-79 South in Muddy Creek Township.
Police said when they arrived at the scene, they found a black 2000 Honda CRV in the center median. Police first talked with Skinner, the driver, who identified himself as Derik Wallace and told police he did not have identification.
“Skinner stated that he just recently purchased the vehicle from a person on Facebook, and there was not any paperwork yet on the vehicle,” said the investigating officer in the affidavit.
Police then talked with Parks, the passenger, who identified himself.
“Parks and Skinner then proceeded to flee on foot across the southbound lane of Interstate 79 and into the woods,” said the officer in the affidavit.
A different trooper later arrested Parks and Skinner on Bloomfield School Road.
“At this time, Skinner stated he fled on foot because he knew he had active warrants and that he stole the vehicle the previous night,” said the officer in the affidavit.
A preliminary hearing for both men was scheduled for March 17.
