PHILADELPHIA — A federal prosecutor is putting a dollar value on the fraud he says a once-powerful Pennsylvania lawmaker committed against the state senate.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert Zauzmer said in his second day of closing arguments Tuesday he conservatively estimates the fraud on the Senate by Vincent Fumo at $2.5 million.

Zauzmer says Fumo used staff members on Senate time to clean house, buy gifts, run errands, run campaigns and spy on his daughter and a former girlfriend. The 65-year-old former senator is charged with defrauding the state, a charity and a museum of $3.5 million in goods and services.

Zauzmer is set to resume his arguments today. Then defense attorneys for Fumo will give their closing arguments before the case goes to the jury.
