LOWER BURRELL — The parents of a Catholic school student have settled a lawsuit that will allow the boy to play in the marching band of his local public school.

Alexander Trefelner's parents sued earlier this year saying the boy's religious freedoms were denied when the Burrell School District wouldn't let the ninth-grader play in the high school band. Trefelner attended public school through the eighth grade and he wanted to continue to participate in Burrell's band program even though he now attends a Catholic school outside the district that doesn't have a band.

The district's attorney says the settlement still must be approved by the school board. But the boy's attorney says Trefelner can stay in Burrell's band until he graduates.
