When's the last time you waited in line to get gas or had to wait till it was the day you were ALLOWED to buy gas because your license plate ended with an odd or even number? Let me remind you - Jimmy Carter.

I hate $3.29 a gallon, and I really hate diesel at $4.23! But every day I need to but gas - it is available and I can continue with my life.

The LAST thing we need is more taxes per gallon! The oil companies just pass taxes through. That is a political "feel good" move that hurts us even worse. The government can lower our costs by REDUCING the taxes.

The oil companies have to pay the going rate per barrel ($110+) + the taxes. They are also in a dying industry - they know we will eventually go to alternative fuels - just like we abandoned our steel mills. They are getting while the getting is good and plowing those profits into alternative fuels - smart on their part.

I have a different (unreasonable because it makes sense) approach. Pull our military and all money associated with maintaining a stable oil supply across the world saving, what? a Trillion a year or more? Then let oil prices do what they will - and provide tax credits to oil consumers. If Opec wants safe ocean travel for their tankers - let them float a navy to protect them. The US taxpayer pays more than the pump price for oil (including the loss of life of our military).

Its time for the USA to show OPEC a new place to stick that gas nozzle.
