WARREN — State police said an 18-year-old man drowned in the Allegheny Reservoir near Kinzua Dam while swimming in cold water while attempting to retrieve a canoe.

State police said David Sarber of Cooperstown drowned Saturday morning.

Police said Sarber was camping with a friend when their canoe drifted from shore about 7 a.m. in Mead Township. Sarber jumped into the water to swim to the canoe then got back out to remove the outer layers of his clothes.

Police said Sarber then jumped back into the water, but was overcome by the cold water and drowned.

INDIANA — A coroner is trying to identify a man found dead after a reported explosion and fire at a home.Indiana County Coroner Michael Baker said the dead man's body was found in the basement after firefighters in White Township responded just before 9 p.m. Sunday.A neighbor told authorities he heard a loud explosion and then saw the house on fire.Baker's office is overseeing an autopsy today.A state police fire marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.
