I am writing to voice my displeasure with the change in voting places in Center Township. I have heard about complaints of long waits and crowded conditions on Election Day. I have lived in Center Township for over 20 years and have never had any problems with long waits or over crowding. Until this year, I have always voted at Trinity Lutheran Church. I am there at 7 am when the polls open and even with the change to electronic voting, never had a problem with a long wait or large crowd. The people working there always ran an efficient operation. The County Election Bureau created another voting place for Center Township. This is at St. Andrews Catholic Church on Route 8 just north of Trinity Lutheran Church. When I received my notice of the change in voting places I was told I had to go to Unionville Fire Hall. I live in Westwood Manor III and would go to Mercer Rd. and travel Route 8 south to Trinity. This would be on my way to work. I could also stop after work and then continue home. With this change, I now have to go north on Route 8 for over 2.5 miles to vote then turn around and go south to get to work or home. That's over 5 miles extra. The St. Andrews location is less than 1 mile from Mercer Rd. I would like to know, why was my voting place changed to Unionville? I can't seem to get an answer from anyone. E-mails to state representatives have resulted in being told the state has no control over what the county does. E-mails to the three County Commissioners resulted in one response that my e-mail would be forwarded to the County Election Bureau. I got no response to my e-mail from there either. My call to the Election Bureau got the response, "Oh well, you can't please everyone." I'm beginning to wonder, who's running the county government. The County Commissioners don't seem to want to do anything or even explain why I have to go over 5 extra miles to vote. It appears to me, the Election Bureau is controlling things and the commissioners just don't care about the inconvenience this change has created. In my opinion, someone is trying to make voting in Center Township less convenient and discouraging voters from certain areas from voting at all.
