Teachers do enjoy a benefit package that most of us would love to have. But until there is major change in how teachers are compensated (Ed has the start to a valid plan) that type of compension is the industry standard. One cannot compare compensation packages across professions and expect to see equatity. You have to look within the same profession to compare whether or not the teacher of South Butler are asking for unfair compensation. We all want to be paid what we think we deserve based on what our peers are getting paid. We must insist that the District and teachers agree to a contract to is fair to all parties. It must be fair to the teachers based on what their peers are making, it must be fair to the tax payers to make sure costs are held in check, and it must be fair to the parents and students of S. Butler to make sure that the best and brightest teachers are attracted to and remain in our District. That is what is at the heart of this dispute.
