Butler man back to jail in rape case

John Wroblewski

A Butler man accused of rape and out on pretrial supervision was committed to the county jail after that supervision was revoked in Butler County Court, for violations of his electronic monitoring.

John R. Wroblewski Jr., 49, was recommitted to Butler County Prison on $50,000 cash bail following the hearing before Judge William Shaffer.

During the hearing Cody Bachman, of MHY Family Services, which monitors defendants on house arrest and electronic monitoring, testified that on Sept. 27, he discovered “inconsistencies” with Wroblewski's whereabouts. Bachman testified that GPS monitoring showed Wroblewski at places he was not allowed to be.

Those included the campus of Butler County Community College as well as twice being at another home that was not his.

Bachman said this was the first violation since June 26, and Wroblewski has had no violations since.

Dr. Tracy Veri, sexual offender probation officer with the Butler County Probation Office, testified that Wroblewski indicated he was moving to a new apartment on that day, which he was allowed to do. But Veri testified that Wroblewski was streets away from the new apartment, violating the terms of his supervised release.

He was also barred from college campuses and the tracker information indicated Wroblewski had visited BC3's campus.

Wroblewski testified that his ride stopped at the campus to drop off a friend despite his protests, and he was a passenger in his own vehicle being driven by a friend, and was stopped in road work traffic by the home.

Both instances lasted a few minutes, Veri said. However, Assistant District Attorney Benjamin Simon said “the satellite doesn't lie.”

“These are serious charges. He is lucky he's out on EM (electronic monitoring). One violation is too many,” said Simon, citing that no testimony had been offered by the unidentified driver Wroblewski said was operating his vehicle at the time.

Wroblewski's attorney, Michael Jewert, argued that these incidents are the “first violation of any kind, to which he offered reasonable explanation.”

Wroblewski is charged with felony rape of an unconscious victim, statutory sexual assault, aggravated indecent assault and corruption of minors and misdemeanor indecent assault after an incident March 8, 2016.

State police said a 15-year-old girl reported meeting Wroblewski on Facebook, before meeting him in person on March 8.

Wroblewski, the court records state, picked the girl up in her driveway, then picked up another juvenile in Chicora, and drove to his home, where he allegedly provided alcohol and marijuana to the teens.

The girl said she passed out on the couch around 1 a.m. on March 9, and when she woke up, Wroblewski was assaulting her. She told investigators that she kicked Wroblewski and told him to stop. The girl said the other juvenile still was present and playing a video game at the time, police said.
