Woman arrested in suspected home burglary

A woman is accused of breaking into a Butler home and trying to steal a car there Monday morning.

City police arrested Kristen N. Leroy, 33, who has no known address, a short time later and not far from the house on Second Street. She was allegedly found with drugs and other contraband.

District Judge William Fullerton arraigned Leroy on felony charges of burglary, trespass, theft and receiving stolen property. She also is charged with misdemeanor counts of criminal mischief, possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia, and possession of a small amount of marijuana.

She remains in the Butler County Prison in lieu of $15,000 bond while awaiting her preliminary hearing Dec. 9.

Police said they were called around 8:50 a.m. for a reported burglary in progress at the home, where the defendant's former boyfriend lived.

The man's mother and stepfather own the house.

The stepfather allegedly reported that Leroy had smashed a front window to get inside the unoccupied home. He said he stopped her as she began driving away in the car belonging to her former boyfriend, police said.

She walked away, but officers found her minutes later at Monroe and Brady streets. Police said they searched her and turned up keys to the car. Those keys had been in the house.

Additionally, according to charging documents, police found her with pills for which she did not have a prescription, a grinder with suspected marijuana, a syringe, a crack pipe, a metal spoon with suspected heroin residue, and other drug paraphernalia.

Online court records did not indicate if Leroy has an attorney.
