Alleged prowler leads police on brief chase

Police needed to Tase a Butler man who allegedly trespassed on a Center Township property.

State police charged Daniel K. Barron, 32, of Butler, with misdemeanors of resisting arrest, prowling at night and disorderly conduct, among other related charges. After his arrest, Barron was placed in Butler County Prison on $30,000 bond.

According to a Tuesday news release, police responded at 4:31 a.m. Friday to a home in the 1900 block of North Main Street Extension, Center Township, where homeowners reported a man was trespassing.

According to charging documents, as they were driving to the scene, police saw Barron on the shoulder of the road, trying to conceal himself on the hillside.

Police said as they called out to Barron, he fled on foot, and a brief chase ensued.

“A Taser was deployed and the defendant fell to the ground,” said the investigating officer in the affidavit.

Police said Barron also appeared to reach toward his waist band and tucked his hands underneath him. Police said they had to Tase him a second time, and even then he actively resisted arrest.

“Physical force was applied in order to take the defendant into custody,” said the officer in the affidavit.

According to documents, after police managed to gain control of the suspect, they found him to be intoxicated.

The documents said police interviewed the victims, who said Barron was banging on their garage door, and they confronted him.

“The homeowner advised him to leave, and he stated that he was 'chilling,'” said the officer in the affidavit. “He then fled before making contact with (state police).”

Barron is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing April 20 before District Judge Lewis Stoughton.
