KARNS CITY — The Karns City School Board approved the resignation of elementary Principal Greg Mandalas during the board meeting Monday night.

Mandalas, who has been with the district for 20 years, will serve his last day as principal of Sugarcreek Elementary School Nov. 30.

Mandalas is moving to the South Butler Primary School, replacing Dave Keibler as principal. Mandalas was a music teacher for 17 years before he became Sugarcreek principal three years ago, according to Superintendent Eric Ritzert.

In the interim, the board hired David Beck, a retired high school principal, to be the acting principal for $375 per day, until the position is filled permanently.

The board also approved advertising and posting the elementary principal opening. The elementary principal also serves as the transportation director for the district. Individuals interested in applying must do so in writing by Dec. 7.

Ritzert said he hopes to have a candidate for the board to approve during the January meeting. That meeting will be at 8:30 p.m. Jan. 9 at the administration office, 1446 Kittanning Pike, Karns City.
