...for the same reasons that property owners pay school taxes even when they don't have school-age children (or kids in public schools or kids at all) - because everyone benefits as a state when we ensure a certain minimum level of education and oversight of the children in our communities. So too with worthwhile sex education (i.e. not the scientifically hostile, 'just say no' brand of abstinence only indoctrination) and or prevention of unplanned pregnancy, and yes, as a last resort, when all else fails, even abortion. The anti-abortion harpies don't have a legitimate claim to valuing life, or they would cheerfuly support the full spectrum of family planning initiatives. They've never gotten pregnant to a rapist or watched their baby slowly starve or succumb to disease. They'd rather pretend these atrocities don't exist and take the low road to the moral high ground by condemning those who do the real work of improving the human condition.
