Virtual pasture walks set this month
The Blair and Huntingdon County Conservation Districts will host two virtual pasture walks with Russ Wilson this month.
The first session will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday.
This session will be a trial run to get people familiar with using Zoom. It’s really easy to use. I tried it for the first time recently and it was very smooth and user-friendly.
This coffee shop-style meeting will a great way to learn a little more about Wilson and his operation. Visit https://www.eventbrite.com/e/113146231424 to register for this event.
On Aug. 27, from 10 a.m. until noon, Wilson will again host a virtual pasture walk. He will discuss fence options, his watering system, and answer questions.

These links are for the registration; once registered, you’ll receive an email with the Zoom meeting link.
For those not familiar, Wilson owns and manages a 220-acre adaptive grazing system in northwest Pennsylvania where livestock are pastured for more than 300 days per year.
With more than 40 years of practical experience in agriculture, he has learned how proper forage management and species diversity can pay dividends for livestock production and soil health.
Wilson employs a low- input and skillful management approach to make sure the farm delivers profitability and provides an enjoyable place to work.
He also has his own YouTube channel, where he routinely posts videos about the farm, tips and tricks. Visit https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCWTP4RxGyAegMtCpdQrJ9nA to check it out.
Andy Gaver is a conservationist with the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service in Butler County.
