TE Cushing among 10 Steelers players cut Monday

PITTSBURGH - Matt Cushing, a run-blocking tight end who has played on and off for the Pittsburgh Steelers for six seasons, was among 10 players released Monday in the first of two cutdowns set before the Sept. 11 season opener.

Only one other experienced player, wide receiver Chris Doering, also was waived. Doering re-signed with the Steelers on Aug. 11 amid a series of wide receiver injuries after previously playing for the team in 2003 and 2004.

Cushing was used in training camp exclusively as a fullback after being a tight end and emergency fullback during previous stays with the team. He played in 53 games from 1999-2004, making 13 catches for 91 yards.
