BEAVER — State and county police in Western Pennsylvania are investigating a page on a social media website that includes photos of high school girls with fabricated material of a sexual nature.

State police in Beaver say the “Beaver County Hoez” Facebook page has 25 pictures of students as young as 14 that were taken from the actual Facebook pages of the victims. They say the photos are posted on the site “with a fictitious bio of a sexually explicit nature associated with each juvenile girl.”

Trooper Rocco DeMaiolo says investigators have opened a cyber-bullying and harassment case and are working with the social media site's security department to try to identify those responsible and have the site taken down. They are asking anyone with information to call state police.

HARRISBURG — The searchable database of registered sex offenders in Pennsylvania has been changed to make it easier for users who want to focus on a geographic area, state police said Wednesday.The revamped Megan's Law website now lets users search for offenders who live or attend school within a half-mile to five miles of a given location.That makes it easier for someone to search, for example, for the registered sex offenders who live near their home or near a school. It provides a map, with their locations marked.

PHILADELPHIA — Pennsylvania lawmakers are coming to Philadelphia to hear testimony on the pros and cons of privatizing state liquor and wine stores.Supporters, including Gov. Tom Corbett, see privatization as a way to help the state close a projected multibillion-dollar deficit. Many say a free-market system will give consumers more choices and convenience.Opponents question how much money the state can raise by selling liquor licenses. They also argue that state employees would be more vigilant in policing sales to minors.
