Activist catches pair of NFL stars parked in handicapped zone

GLASSBORO, N.J. — They weren't the ones who left their trucks in handicapped-parking zones, but a pair of Philadelphia Eagles stars were convicted Wednesday of parking offenses in cases brought by an activist who relentlessly guards such parking spots in this Philadelphia suburb.

Municipal Judge Charles Sprigman ordered quarterback Donovan McNabb to pay a $256 fine and $33 in court fees. Linebacker Jeremiah Trotter, who had parked illegally twice, was ordered to pay $512 and $66 in fees.

The two were among dozens of alleged parking scofflaws who attended a special session of municipal court to deal with some of the roughly 400 cases that activist Maryann Cottrell and her boyfriend, Richard Holland, have initiated in Glassboro since last summer.

Cottrell, whose 20-year-old daughter is disabled, takes pictures and files complaints whenever she sees people parked in the zones without permits. Her many detractors say she lacks discretion and cites people who pulled in for a few seconds to drop someone off or who would be eligible to park in the spaces if they would only apply for a permit.

McNabb initially pleaded not guilty.
