JOHNSTOWN — A bronze sculpture depicting the late U.S. Rep. John Murtha is now standing in the heart of his Pennsylvania congressional district.

The seven-foot-tall statute was unveiled Monday at Veterans Park in Johnstown. Crafted by sculptor Wayne Hyde, it depicts Murtha striding forward with his right hand extended.

Speakers included Murtha’s widow, Joyce, and retired Gen. James Jones, a former Marine Corps commandant and NATO commander.

Jones said it was fitting for a memorial to Murtha to become “a permanent part of this landscape that he loved so much.”
