LOWER BURRELL, — Hundreds are expected to turn out as a Western Pennsylvania police officer killed by a shooting suspect is laid to rest.

Funeral services are set today for officer Derek Kotecki.

The Lower Burrell police officer was gunned down in a restaurant parking lot last week by a man who had been wanted for an alleged shooting.

Charlie Post died during the subsequent exchange of gunfire with police, although authorities haven’t determined if the shot that killed him was self-inflicted.

Police had been searching for Post since he allegedly opened fire on his boss in the parking lot of a motel in neighboring New Kensington. Westmoreland County District Attorney John Peck says Post had threatened officers during phone conversations with police investigating that shooting.

Kotecki was married with two children.
