Clement pitches well, but gets no decision in Boston loss to Royals
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Boston starting pitcher Matt Clement pitched seven innings of the Red Sox's game with the Kansas City Royals Wednesday, giving up three runs and six hits. He also had a wild pitch and hit three batters, including Angel Berroa twice.
But the Butler native didn't get a decision in the Boston's 5-4, 11-inning loss.
Clement, who was struck in the head by a line drive on July 26 and missed one start, got hit on the thumb by a comebacker to the mound in the third inning. The next two batters each singled, and one scored on sacrifice fly, but Clement regained his effectivness.
"He lost feeling for a little bit but he shook it off," said Boston manager Terry Francona. "It stung him for a little while but once he felt like he could at least feel it, he was better off. I thought his stuff was good."
