Butler Police4:17 p.m. Wednesday — A pickup truck driven by Donald J. Steighner, 69, of Kittanning struck a vehicle parked on East Jefferson Street. Steighner, who was wearing a seat belt and suffered a minor injury, was cited for careless driving.Wednesday — Erika R. Chiocchio, 29, of Center Township was charged with driving under the influence stemming from her arrest last month on Gibson Street.Police said they were called shortly after 2 a.m. for a fight in the 200 block of Fifth Avenue and found Chiocchio's car parked and running in the middle of Gibson Street. A “strong odor” of marijuana was coming from the vehicle, court documents said.After the suspect got out of the car, an officer noticed a bag of marijuana on the driver's seat, Police said Chiocchio appeared impaired and failed a field sobriety test before being arrested and taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test.A toxicology report later showed her blood-alcohol level was 0.153 percent, documents said. A level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated under state law. She also had marijuana in her system, the report said.Chiocchio is charged with DUI, driving under the influence of a combination of drugs and alcohol, and possession of a small amount of marijuana.11:38 p.m. Tuesday — Krystal K. Krauchak, 27, of Oakland Township passed out from a suspected heroin overdose in the women's bathroom at the Eau Claire Street Cafe. Emergency crews were already treating her when police got there.Officers said they found two empty stamp bags of heroin in the toilet. Rescuers used two doses of the opioid antidote Narcan to revive Krauchak, who admitted taking heroin in the bathroom, court documents said.She is charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.April 13 — A woman reported that someone stole her blue, 2014 Dodge Avenger that was parked in front of her home in the 400 block of Zeigler Avenue. The owner told police that she last saw her car at 9:30 p.m. April 12. The vehicle when taken had the Pennsylvania license plate JDG4538.Anyone with information is asked to call police at 724-2877-743, or 911.
Grove City PoliceTuesday — Michelle Lee Jordan, 31, and Natalie R. Hummell, 32, both of Grove City, were arrested in connection with a prescription fraud investigation.Police accused the women of obtaining and attempting to obtain medication over the past several months using forged prescriptions.Jordan was arraigned on charges of acquisition of a controlled substance by fraud, two counts of conspiracy to commit acquisition of a controlled substance by fraud, attempted acquisition of a controlled substance by fraud, and four counts of attempted forgery.Hummell was arraigned on two counts of conspiracy to commit acquisition of a controlled substance by fraud and four counts of attempted forgery.Jordan was placed in the Mercer County Jail on $25,000 bail. Hummel is free on $25,000 unsecured bail.
Butler County SheriffMonday — Two Fenelton men were charged with providing false information on background check forms last week while attempting to obtain a permit to carry a handgun.Jeremiah T. Brockman, 21, and Andrew Fink, 25, allegedly provided answers about their criminal record on the concealed carry application that were not truthful and were rejected by the Pennsylvania Instant Check System that is run by the state police.Brockman and Fink submitted their applications on Friday and Thursday, respectively. Both are charged with unsworn falsification to authorities.
State Police, ButlerApril 7 — Police charged Darren R. Perry, 26, of Butler with vandalizing a car on Feb. 10 in Parker, Armstrong County. Perry is accused of slashing two back tires of a car at a 26-year-old woman's home on North Wabash Avenue. He is charged with criminal mischief.9:30 p.m. March 27 — Chad J. Erdos, 38, of Butler allegedly punched through the glass window of a front door at a 28-year-old woman's home on Chicora Road in Summit Township. Damage was estimated at $160. Police cited Erdos for criminal mischief.
State Police, Gibsonia3:15 a.m. Wednesday — An Ohio man was hurt when he crashed his pickup truck on the Pennsylvania Turnpike in Cranberry Township. Sea S. Kim, 36, of Youngstown told police that he had to swerve his vehicle to avoid a tractor-trailer that changed lanes in front of him.Kim's pickup struck the center median before traveling across both lanes and hitting a guardrail. Kim, who was wearing a seat belt, suffered an unknown injury.
State Police, Kittanning6:37 a.m. Saturday — Danial J. Dopson, 28, of Freeport allegedly used heroin in the bathroom of an East Franklin Township residence before walking off under the influence and leaving behind drug contraband. Police said they recovered suspected heroin and a syringe. Dopson is charged with possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.
State Police, MercerTuesday — An unspecified amount of currency was stolen from a home on Old Ash Road in Springfield Township. The theft happened between March 19 and Tuesday. Police have no suspects.
State Police, New CastleApril 15 — William W. Bortz Jr., 37, of Prospect was charged with drugged driving stemming from a crash last month in Slippery Rock Township, Lawrence County.Police suspect Bortz was impaired about 10:15 a.m. March 22 when he lost control of his van, crossed into oncoming traffic and hit a guardrail on Route 422 at Fox Road.Bortz is charged with driving under the influence of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia, failing to keep right, disregarding traffic lanes, careless driving, reckless driving and not wearing a seat belt.
