4 charged in drug raid
BUTLER TWP — The Butler County Drug Task Force has charged four other people stemming from a raid last month at an Old Plank Estates apartment.
Narcotics officers and Butler Township police made the bust Sept. 8 during an investigation into a fatal drug overdose in Adams Township.
Charged Thursday with misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia are Paul A. Plakidas Jr., 38, of Slippery Rock; Jennifer S. Salusky, 37, of Connoquenessing Township; and Miranda Suhan, 25, of Winfield Township.
Also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia is Christina L. Smith, 49, of Center Township.
The four defendants were in Eugene J. Smith III’s apartment where police had gone with a search warrant. Investigators were looking for evidence into the death of a woman days earlier at an Adams Township home.
Authorities suspect 24-year-old Elizabeth Arblaster of Brady Township on Sept. 2 bought heroin at Eugene Smith’s apartment. She was found dead the next day of an apparent overdose.
Eugene Smith, 47, and Michael D. Burrows, 30, of Wilmerding, Allegheny County, were arrested during the raid.
Both men are in the Butler County Prison awaiting trial on drug trafficking-related charges in the investigation. Prosecutors, however, have not ruled out charging the men in Arblaster’s death, pending the final autopsy report.
During the search, according to court documents, officers found Plakidas with three stamp bags of suspected heroin, and Salusky had four bags of suspected heroin and a loaded syringe in her purse.
Officers found a bag of suspected heroin in Suhan’s bra, documents said, and Christina Smith had drug contraband in her purse.
