Sliders suffer 10-6 loss at Critchfield
SLIPPERYROCK — Joe Holland had three hits and three RBI while Greg Stone, Tim Grogan and Dan Guttridge drove in two runs apiece to lead the Florence Freedom to a 10-6 victory over the Slippery Rock Sliders Wednesday at Jack Critchfield Park.
Florence rapped out 14 hits and scored six runs over the final four innings to erase a 6-4 deficit.
Ryan Basham added two hits and three runs and Reggie Watson two hits and two runs for the Freedom (3-5).
Jason Curry and Michael Richardson led the way for the Sliders (3-5) with two hits and two RBI each while Jason Von Behren had two hits, one run scored and one RBI and Cy Donald added two hits.
Slippery Rock trailed 3-2 before scoring three runs in the bottom of the third inning to take a 5-3 lead.
Both teams scored one run in the fifth inning before Florence tied the game at 6 with two runs in the sixth inning.
The Freedom tacked on two runs in the seventh to take the lead and two insurance runs in the ninth inning to close out the scoring.
Matt Marksbury improved to 2-0 on the season, pitching 1Z\c innings in relief of Chris Webb, who allowed five runs in 2-plus innings and Alain Quijano, who tossed 22/3 innings with five strikeouts.
Pete Parise was tagged with the loss, allowing four runs and five hits in 12/3 innings. Alex McEnaney started the game for the Sliders. He was charged with four runs and four hits over the first five innings.
Wednesday's attendance was 367. The Sliders return to action for a 7:05 p.m. start tonight against Florence.
