'Jackets try to keep up with Henderson

Freeport finds itself going from one Henderson to another.

The Yellowjackets got their fill in last Saturday's 28-12 loss to Burrell as running back Tyler Henderson rushed for 134 yards and scored four touchdowns.

This Friday, host Freeport (2-3, 0-3) will try to keep an eye on West Shamokin quarterback Trevor Henderson, who tossed three scoring passes in last week's 55-28 loss to Deer Lakes.

"They throw the ball really well," said Freeport coach Bill Dillen. "They have good receivers. That's their biggest asset.

"(Henderson's) not a bad runner, either. If he gets into trouble, he can hoof it. We'll have to try and contain him," he added.

Jerry Wilson was on the receiving end of two of those scoring throws, while Todd Cessna caught one and rushed for the other.

The Wolves (1-4, 0-3) were tied with Deer Lakes 21-all at the half before the Lancers broke the game open with a 27-point third quarter.

Freeport will enter the 7:30 p.m. game on a three-game losing streak, but Dillen knows his team will not go away quietly.

"I told the kids at the beginning of the season we have to play all nine games. On the following Saturday, if they tell us we're moving on, then we'll play four more games."

A-C Valley (2-2, 0-2) at Union (0-4, 0-4) 7 tonight -

The Falcons enter the game searching for their first 3-game winning streak since 2000.

A-C Valley, after starting the season with two losses by a combined score of 68-8, has turned things around the last two weeks. The victories came over District 10 teams West Middlesex (19-18) and Conneaut Lake (47-6).

Rocco Crapis has rushed for 241 yards and five touchdowns in the last two games to lead the Falcons.

Union, on the other hand, is still looking for its first point of the season.

Positive yards would be a big help, too. The Golden Knights were held to minus-53 yards in a loss to Clarion.

Colton Davis has been one of the few bright spots for Union, which has been outscored 169-0 this season.

Davis had 40 yards on seven carries against Clarion.

Hickory (2-2, 2-1) at Grove City (2-2, 2-1), 7 p.m. Friday

- Grove City is coming off two impressive wins over Reynolds (41-0) and Slippery Rock (24-0).

And Jesse Alfreno has been a big part of it.

The junior receiver-running back gained 100 yards on the ground against Slippery Rock.

Fullback-linebacker Jack Vallely has also been a driving force behind the Eagles' resurgence after an 0-2 start. The junior has been a force running up the gut, gaining 115 yards against Reynolds. He also made two big goal-line stops against the Rockets to preserve the shutout.

Hickory, though, is also a team on the rise.

Quarterback Steve Lumpp has rushed for better than 200 yards this season and thrown for more than 300 yards in the Hornets' funky shotgun, single wing offense.

Summit Academy (0-5, 0-3) at Shenango (0-5, 0-3), 7:30 p.m. Saturday -

Both team's enter this matchup tied for last place in the Tri-County North standings.

The Wildcats are coming off a 34-19 loss to Mohawk Saturday as Rocco Colavecchia passed for one score and ran for another while Rich Cialella also rushed for a touchdown.

The Knights are coming off a 41-0 loss to Mars and have been outscored 201-41 in their five contests.
