This bird's good word

The bird has the word.

OK, maybe not so much last week, since my wings got clipped on four games.

I'm still winning at a 75 percent rate ... not bad for my maiden flight.

Busy weekend coming up with 14 games on tap. Here's what I'm seeing from the skies:

Upper St. Clair at Butler -An early battle of unbeatens that should be a barn-burner. The Panthers haven't allowed a point yet and that streak will end, but USC find the end zone one more time than Butler in winning a tight one.UPPER ST. CLAIR, 23-15.

Seneca Valley at Bethel Park -This shapes up as another tough call. The Raiders like the air game, but they can run the ball well enough to limit Bethel's possessions and protect their improving, but still suspect, defense.SENECA VALLEY, 25-24.

Knoch at Hampton -You gotta love the match-up of Hampton's offense against Knoch's defense, but the Talbots always find a way to get their points and the Knights' offense won't be able to match Hampton's productivity at home.HAMPTON, 32-16.

Union (New Castle) at Mars -Talk about your good 0-2 teams, Mars has to be the best one out there. The Planets will prove it against an out-manned opponent.MARS, 40-12.

Karns City at Sharpsville -Intriguing match-up as the Gremlins go on the road to face a talented Class A opponent. Karns City is still trying to get the right pieces in place.SHARPSVILLE, 18-14.

Moniteau at St. Marys -The Warriors are smarting over losing a game they should have won last week. St. Marys is doing the same ... but Moniteau is more talented, more experienced and more likely to bounce back.MONITEAU, 30-14.

Reynolds at Slippery Rock -The young Rockets lost a heartbreaker last week at Fairview. Now they have to face a Reynolds team filled with multi-year returning starters.REYNOLDS, 22-10.

Freeport at Ford City -If you're not sold on the Yellowjackets yet, get ready to buy. Their defense is tough and their offense will only get better.FREEPORT, 15-7.

Shepherd at Slippery Rock University -The Rock hasn't lost to a WVIAC team in seemingly forever. Shepherd can run the ball and SRU hasn't stopped the run, but look for that to change. I like the home team in a close one.SRU, 25-19.Other selections: Redbank Valley over Union, 44-6; Clarion-Limestone over A-C Valley, 40-6; Mohawk over Summit Academy, 30-14; Grove City over Greenville, 22-6; Grove City College over Carnegie Mellon, 20-18Last week:10-4Season:15-5
