[naviga:h3]VA to host meeting on new health center[/naviga:h3]

BUTLER TWP — VA Butler Healthcare will host a town-hall meeting at 5:30 p.m. April 7 to discuss the new health care center being built on North Duffy Road in Center Township.

The meeting will be in Room 403C at the VA facility at 325 New Castle Road and is open to anyone.

It is the latest in a lineup of quarterly town halls the VA is offering on the project.

The new 168,000-square-foot health care center, valued at $163 million, is expected to be done in the summer of 2017.

[naviga:h3]Concealed carry seminar scheduled[/naviga:h3]

HARRISVILLE — State Rep. Tedd Nesbit, R-8th, will host a concealed carry seminar on April 20 at the Harrisville Volunteer Fire Department, 313 E. Mercer St.

The seminar, which will include Butler County Commissioner Kevin Boozel, Sheriff Mike Slupe and District Attorney Richard Goldinger, will run from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

Attendees will learn about the state’s firearm laws and how to safely interact with police while carrying a firearm, as well as the legal aspects of Pennsylvania’s Castle Doctrine, which allows a homeowner to use deadly force, if necessary, when threatened by an armed intruder.

The 8th District includes the Butler County townships of Brady, Center, Cherry, Clay, Franklin, Marion, Mercer, Muddycreek and Worth, and Harrisville, Portersville, West Liberty and West Sunbury.

[naviga:h3]Saxonburg VFC starts fund drive[/naviga:h3]

SAXONBURG — The Saxonburg Volunteer Fire Company has started its annual fund drive for 2016, and letters have been mailed to all residents, businesses and property owners in the department’s service area.

If you did not receive a donation request in the mail and want to donate, you can mail your donation to Saxonburg VFC, P.O. Box 581, Saxonburg, PA 16056.

[naviga:h3]Voter registration deadline is today[/naviga:h3]

HARRISBURG — Pennsylvanians who want to register to vote or change their registration face a deadline of today before the April 26 primary.

The Wolf administration has begun a new online voter registration system, available through votespa.com.

State voters will weigh in on the Republican and Democratic primaries for president and pick party nominees for U.S. Senate, the U.S. House, state attorney general and state Legislature.

Anyone who wants to vote must be a U.S. citizen, a resident of the state and their district for at least a month and at least 18 years old.
