Flyers eliminated by Sabres in six

PHILADELPHIA — Buffalo showed it can win a playoff game on the road when it needs to.

Playing against the Philadelphia Flyers in a Game 6 anywhere seems to suit the Sabres fine.

The Sabres dominated from the first faceoff, flexing their scoring muscle in a 7-1 win Tuesday night that put them in the Eastern Conference semifinals for the first time in five years and extended the Flyers' Stanley Cup drought to 30 seasons.

"We took advantage of every break we got," Sabres coach Lindy Ruff said.

Chris Drury scored twice and Ryan Miller had 21 saves for the Sabres, who won the best-of-seven series in six games and will play Northeast Division-rival Ottawa in the second round.

The Carolina Hurricanes eliminated Montreal with a 2-1 overtime victory just moments after the Sabres dismissed Philadelphia to complete the first round in the East. Carolina will meet New Jersey in the conference's other semifinal.

Hurricanes 2, Canadiens 1

Cory Stillman scored 1:19 into overtime and Carolina eliminated Montreal in six games.

After dropping the first two games of the best-of-seven series at home, Carolina roared back to win four straight — three in Montreal.
