LEWISBURG — Seneca Valley swimming coach Tom Donati's just glad he's got Abby Myers coming back for three more years.

The Raiders freshman placed second in the 100-yard butterfly at the PIAA Class AAA Swimming Championships Wednesday at Bucknell University.

She placed third in Wednesday morning's preliminary round with a time of 56.82 seconds before managing a 56.48 in the finals.

The only girl to finish ahead of Myers was Hershey junior Kathleen Nolan, whose time of 53.42 broke the PIAA record that stood for 25 years.

Nolan's performance prompted Donati to refer to her as a "future Olympian." But in one respect, he was more impressed by Myers' second place.

"Deep down, I was just looking at it like Abby's a 14-year old girl going into a meet she's never competed in before," Donati said. "I was just looking for her to swim her best, but to do what she did, it was amazing. It just shows you what kind of girl she is."

Myers won the WPIAL title in the butterfly, but admitted the PIAA championships posed a whole new challenge.

"I was a little nervous coming in," she said. "But to come in seeded second and to finish second, it's pretty cool."

Myers was one of only two swimmers from District 7 to place in the top 13 in the event. Moon's Zina Grogg the other, finishing fifth.

Myers will compete in the 100 freestyle and 400 freestyle relay today.

Her teammate, senior Rose Snyder, medaled in Wednesday's 200 freestyle with a seventh-place time of 1:52.68.

SV's Emily Wolfarth placed 11th in the same event at 1:54.1.

Senior Diana Rocco finished 11th in the girls diving event with a score of 373.80.

Junior Dan Gutmann, the lone SV participant in the boys meet, was 19th in the 50 freestyle in 21.99.
