JACKSON TWP — Nick Dvorsky kept his team in the game in the first half.

With the last shot of the game, he won it.

The North Allegheny senior guard took an inbounds pass, drove the length of the floor and banked in a shot at the final buzzer to lift the Tigers to a dramatic 50-49 boys basketball win over Seneca Valley Friday.

"All game long, Nick was our most consistent player," NA coach Dave DeGregorio said of Dvorsky, who scored 14 of his team's 19 points in the first half.

He ended the night as the game's high scorer with 19.

"He's a really good player and we wanted the ball in his hands," added DeGregorio. "We wanted to get something going toward the rim."

The Raiders didn't press and collapsed their defense as Dvorsky neared the hoop.

With time winding down, he realized getting to the basket was out of the question, so he pulled up just to the left of the basket to hit the final shot.

"We played (man-to-man) on that final possession," said Raiders coach Vic Giannotta. "I'm thinking we should have went zone.

"It was a nice shot by their kid, but we should have ran at him and taken the ball."

With the win, the Tigers take sole possession of first place in Section 3-AAAA.

It was Nate Herrmann's 3-pointer that forced NA to rely on its last-second shot.

The Tigers led 48-46 with 1:20 remaining before SV's offense took more than a minute off the clock trying to get a good look.

Herrmann got it and drained a trifecta from the corner with seven seconds left. The Tigers took a time out to draw up what would become the winning scheme.

Despite leading by 10 at several points in the second half, key calls went against the Raiders (3-2, 7-5).

Trailing 35-25 late in the third quarter, the Tigers (4-1, 8-3) received two free throws from Jeff Haus after Giannotta was called for a technical foul.

"I don't know what I said to get that technical," Giannotta said.

Later in the quarter, Haus put back his own miss, but it appeared to come after the third-quarter buzzer. The basket stood to cut SV's lead to 37-32.

"There's no way that basket should have counted," said Giannotta.

Still, the Raiders scored the first five points of the final quarter to go up 42-32, but the Tigers went on an 18-7 run in the last seven minutes.

C.J. Brown led the Raiders with 13 points and Herrmann added 10.

Haus contributed 13 points for the Tigers.
