HARRISBURG — The state is asking for motorists' input through the state Department of Transportation annual survey.

The brief survey on highway safety, traffic safety enforcement and driving behaviors will be available until Sept. 27 on the PennDOT website.

Questions on seat belt use, impaired driving, speeding, motorcycles and distracted driving are included in the survey.

The results plus traffic crash data has allowed PennDOT to increase by about 20 percent its federal aggressive-driving enforcement funds, which are used statewide.

Last year, 6,619 people took the survey.

Among those results, respondents noted that in the previous 60 days, 79 percent said they had not driven a motor vehicle within two hours after consuming alcoholic beverages. Also, 92 percent indicated they used a seat belt all or most of the time.

More than 90 percent of last year's respondents indicated they rarely or never talk on a hand-held cell phone, text or check email while driving. But the most commonly addressed topic in the participant comments included the high frequency of observing these distracted driving behaviors.
