Gladys Elizabeth Kniess Rice, 95, formerly of Harmony, died Wednesday at the home of her son, Robert Rice, in Scottsboro, Ala., where she has lived for two years.

Born Oct. 12, 1911, in Harmony, she was the daughter of Noel and Katherine Barkley Kniess.

She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Rice as a life member of St. John's Lutheran Stone Church, where she belonged to the woman's association.

She is survived by six children, Robert Rice of Scottsboro, Regis Rice of Pinellas Park, Fla., Donald Rice of Midway, Ark., Mrs. William (Judy) Miller of Clarion, Terry Rice of Toney, Ala., and Dale Rice of Greenville; 16 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchild. A sister, Ester Miller of Zelienople, also survives.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Emmet C. Rice, who died in 1993; a daughter; a son, and a grandson.
