PITTSBURGH — A receptionist wounded during a shooting rampage at a mental health clinic claimed in court papers that the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center opted not to put a bullet-resistant barrier around her desk because of the cost.

Mark Homyak, the attorney for 65-year-old Kathryn Leight, made that claim as part of her ongoing lawsuit against the estate of John Shick, who was fatally shot by University of Pittsburgh police after he killed one employee and wounded Leight and four others March 8 at the Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic.
