HARRISBURG — State Sen. Randy Vulakovich will serve on five committees for the remainder of the current legislative session after being appointed by Senate President Pro Tempore Joe Scarnati.

Vulakovich will serve as the vice chairman of the Senate aging and youth committee. He will also serve on the transportation committee, the community economic and recreational development committee, the game and fisheries committee and the intergovernmental operations committee.

In a statement, Vulakovich said he is eager to get to work on the committees because there are only a few months remaining in the current legislative session.

“I am pleased with these assignments,” he said. “These are good committees that consider a wide variety of issues that impact each of us on a daily basis.”

Vulakovich assumed his seat in the Senate last month after winning a special election on Aug. 7.

He replaced former state Sen. Jane Orie in the 40th District after Orie resigned her seat earlier this year in the wake of a conviction on political corruption charges.

Vulakovich will serve the remainder of Orie’s term, which expires in 2014. At that time, the 40th District will move to the eastern part of the state as part of the redistricting process.
