Butler Twp. Police2 a.m. Wednesday — Norma Jean Reges, 43, of Butler allegedly stole $30 from a wallet that was in a car in which she was a passenger at the Days Inn on Route 8 south. She is charged with misdemeanor counts of theft and receiving stolen property.
Middlesex Twp. PoliceTuesday — Casey W. Whitfield, 29, of Valencia was charged with drunken driving stemming from a New Year’s Day traffic stop on State Road near Pointe Drive.Police said they stopped Whitfield’s sport utility vehicle about 2:35 a.m. Jan. 1 after he nearly hit a stop sign and road sign while turning from Park Road onto State Road. The suspect, who smelled of alcohol, appeared impaired, according to court documents.While patting down Whitefield, the arresting officer found a can of beer in his left back pocket. He was taken for a blood test after failing filed sobriety tests.Toxicology results later showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.198 percent. A level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated under state law.Whitfield is charged with driving under the influence and careless driving.Tuesday — Kimberly M. Logan, 48, of Butler was charged with drugged driving in connection with a two-vehicle crash about 2:35 p.m. Nov. 20 in Penn Township.Police said the collision happened on Route 8 southbound when Logan struck the other vehicle, driven by Aaron Bellis, while making a lane change. The investigating officer found Logan’s car resting on an embankment on the northbound side of the road facing north.Logan appeared to be under the influence, but a portable breath test device showed she had no alcohol in her system. She acknowledged that she had taken the anti-anxiety medication clonazepam that day.She failed field sobriety tests and was taken to UPMC Passavant in Cranberry Township for a blood test, which indicated not only clonazepam in her system but also benzoylecgonine, a metabolite of cocaine, documents said.In addition to driving under the influence, Logan is charged with driving under the influence of a controlled substance and careless driving.
State Police, Butler3:40 p.m. Wednesday — Cars driven by Raymond B. Lascek, 62, and William R. Granville, 64, both of Sarver, collided at Brewer and Albin roads in Clinton Township. Police cited Lascek for a stop sign violation.3:20 p.m. Wednesday — Elizabeth M. Carbin, 84, of Butler was hurt when she lost control of her car and struck a patch of brush before hitting a second patch of shrubbery and a tree along Mitchell Hill Road in Summit Township.Carbin, who was wearing a seat belt, was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital with unknown injuries.12:50 p.m. Tuesday — One person was injured when a pickup truck driven by John M. Schaefer, 42, of Butler rear-ended a sport utility vehicle on Route 356 just south of Dusty Lane in Jefferson Township.Barbara A, Chaffins, 62, of Butler, a passenger in the pickup, was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital with unknown injuries. She was wearing a seat belt.James H. Riemer, 67, was driving the SUV.Police cited Schaefer for driving too fast for conditions.
State Police, Mercer7:50 a.m. Tuesday — Snow and ice was blamed on a one-car wreck in Wolf Creek Township. Albert A. Lacivita, 64, of Youngstown, Ohio, was exiting Interstate 80 when he slid off the off-ramp and through the stop sign at Route 173.The car traveled across both lanes of Route 173 and struck a concrete barrier. Lacivita was not hurt but his car had to be towed away.
