NEWARK, N.J. — Tyler Bozak became the second player in Toronto Maple Leafs’ history to score a goal with his team skating two men short.

Thirty one years after Darryl Sittler’s feat, Bozak matched it when he beat Martin Brodeur with Toronto skating 3-on-5 at 12:42 of the third period Wednesday night.

Bozak lost a faceoff in his own end, but pushed the puck past Brian Rolston at the point and beat Brodeur with a backhander on a breakaway for his 15th goal. It cut the Devils’ lead to 3-2, but New Jersey went on to win 4-2.

“I have missed quite a few short-handed breakaways this season,” said Bozak, who lost the faceoff in his own end on the play.
