PITTSBURGH — The county health department says a patient has died of Legionnaire's disease at one of Pittsburgh's Veterans Affairs hospitals.

Dr. Ron Voorhees, acting director of the Allegheny County Health Department, told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review the patient was one of five identified earlier this month as suffering from the waterborne bacterial pneumonia.

Voorhees says he can't disclose the patient's name or when the patient died due to federal privacy laws. VA spokesman Dave Cowgill has declined comment, also citing privacy laws. Cowgill had previously said four patients tested positive for the disease and recovered before acknowledging a fifth patient became sick last week.

The VA earlier announced Friday that it had just lifted water use restrictions at its University Drive hospital, where all five patients became sick. The hospital is now using an improved water purification system.

He noted there's a looming deadline to complete a set of reforms, including implementation of a college sports code of conduct.Mitchell is overseeing the school's actions under a compliance agreement made this summer with the NCAA and the Big Ten Conference.The school agreed to pay $60 million and suffer a four-year ban on postseason play, among other things.

NEW CASTLE — A 15-year-old western Pennsylvania boy who killed his father’s pregnant fiancée and her unborn child when he was just 11 will be moved to a juvenile detention facility closer to his father’s home.Jordan Brown of Wampum was previously found delinquent, the juvenile court equivalent of a guilty verdict, in the February 2009 deaths of 26-year-old Kenzie Houk and her unborn son.Debbie and Jack Houk, the victim’s parents, say a Lawrence County judge on Friday granted a defense request to move the boy to George Junior Republic in Grove City.Brown’s attorney declined comment, saying the outcome of the closed-door hearing attended by the Houks was supposed to remain secret because it’s in juvenile court.Brown remains under court supervision until he’s 21.
