HARRISBURG — The New Yorker magazine has been ordered to turn over audio of interview sessions it conducted with former Penn State President Graham Spanier about the Jerry Sandusky sex abuse scandal.

A Harrisburg newspaper reports Judge Barry Feudale ruled Friday. An attorney for the magazine said it will comply by a Dec. 28 deadline.

Reporter Jeffrey Toobin interviewed Spanier after an internal report concluded the former president and his top administrators tried to conceal knowledge of abuse by Sandusky, a former assistant football coach, because they were worried about bad publicity.

Feudale dismissed the magazine’s contention that Spanier had provided background information as a confidential source.
